Vajra is amazing as usual...but he only touch a button on the mixer once, the dicers were the star in this vid. I'd like to see something with more details...on the mixers
It makes sense to move dicers if you juggle or trick mix between to decks. I've set cue points juggling before that I didn't mean to. I'm sure in time you get better at working around them but when you're use to a set up it can be hard to change. I like the dicers enough to find a better spot for them.
Sick! As most said the dicer setup is worth stealing. Been seeing a lot of new all digital setups coming out lately that make me wanna change over, this made me confident in my analog/digital setup!
He cuda used any mixer for that demo.......he didn't do anything special with the 61. I feel like it shuda been a demo vid for the dicers. I was wondering why he had the dicers where they were but it made sense once he started using them. I like them better on the turntable tho.
Based on the specs on this website, the Rane 61 is basically an updated TTM-56, which explains why he didn't do much on the mixer (except scratch). Maybe, he should've demo'd the Rane 62
His skills is not in ? He's nice . But what is new in the mixer got lose in the Performance . After his set he should of showed what the new mixer could do $

i think you guys are missing the point. this mixer is a stripped down turntablist mixer. it is not a 57 it is an upgrade to the 56 with sl included...
click and read all about it serato.com
Kraal is correct. The 61 is for turntablists and the 62 is for club. 61 for people using other devices for cue points etc...it's clearly stated in the description.
You all know Vajra has Super mad skills!!! I noticed that there is actually 4 cues available, which I beleive with proper switchin may be able to be used as 8 (4 for each deck)..... I guess it looks much easier to just use the dice than to use the mixer cues when going back and forth between the decks..??.?

Those are for headphones cueing, you might be able to midi map them, but you wont be able to turn off the initial headphone cueing functions, so would be very akward in use. The reason Vajra uses the Dicers is that if you want cues/loops/rolls/etc you will need an external midi controller. That's one of the main thing that separates the 61 from the 62.
The 61 is more of like a 56 with a 2+1 channel SSL built in...
Well, way to sell the Dicer and his skills. Uh, what about the new mixer??
Definitely props on the man's scratching talent, but again, what about the new mixer?
I honestly don't get why when new products come out like a new mixer....we usually get someone showing off their scratching ability...uh, show me why I should get the product, not why I should look at more videos of the talent behind the product.
I am very proud to see such skill developed
in a very technical and natural ...
Congratulations DJ Vajra
to serve as inspiration for future aspiring DJ!
Why was my comment deleted? Again, he did not use this mixer any differently than you could use any other mixer! His skills are great, but this should be a promo for the Dicers, not the new mixer.

He does show the features of the mixer, ie the faders and the filter, remember this is a clean battle mixer, no excessive buttons present. If you need an explantaion of the mixer have a look at this one www.youtube.comview
Also if you want more buttons + FX then consider the 62

That dude is ill... no doubt. One of my favs, but I'll stick to my ol' TTM-56 with my Denon HC1000 midi controller. I still haven't seen anything to make me want to change my setup.
His performance was dope but everyone knows that the faders on the rane magnetic faders are dope, but what should be displayed is more use of the mapped effects of the knob and instead of the dicers the use of the mixers cue points. That's what I would like to see a video demo performance of.
Nice Set , Much Respect ...... Doesn't Scare Me though cause i know what i can do . Now back to what the vid was supposed to be about ...... what is it about this mixer thats going to make me want to spend another $1500 or so on it . My TTM-57 is still a killer....
I agree with what alot of you have said. The vid is duuuurty, but doesn't show anything about the mixer... what I understand is different about the 61 (which the 57 doesn't do) is that you can route the SP6 sampler through the AUX channel (rather than having to assign it to L, R or M), and also, it lets you assign the internal SL FX from the mixer with flex FX controls (something I've been meaning to try midi mapping to the 57 to mess with the Super-knob effects).
I'm stoked to see what the 62 is all about. It looks like its an amped-up version of the 57, with controls for cue poitns, loops, and effects on the mixer, but with the same new features in the 61 (AUX routing for SP6). Let's see it Z-trip! :D
61 suck if you ask me ! look at the outputs on the back of this mixer they went cheap cheap on this mixer doesn't even have xlr at all. There are only basic functions. Go 62 the 57 is still the shit if you ask me only down fall is those bright people over there only put USB 1.1 on the 57 how dumb of an idea was that bought mine year or so ago and now its out dated thanks Rane and Serato If you run windows 7 you can not use the 57 for that reason. 61 was a waist of mixer unless you just want to save a few bucks! 61 is not a up grade from anything if your running a box keep it save your money buy a 62 or just keep rocking what you have! So unless your just starting out with out serato save your money 61 is waist. Dicers how every best $100 Ive spent on my equitment in a long time worth the purchase for sure!
Have to disagree djez812, the 61 has SSL 3 channels, and supports midi.
If you need your cue/loops/rolls on the mixer, and want hardware FX go with the 62.
If you don't want the extra bells, get the 61, maybe add some dicers, still a great modern SSL battle mixer IMO. I cant believe people are complaining about the Rane giving customers a choice -.
So, at 1:28, he's hitting a cue repeatedly that plays a drum of lowering pitch on each subsequent hit - how is he doing that as it seems like he's just hitting the same cue repeatedly.

thanks,

He's got pitch lock turned off in SSL. He's hitting the same cue,
while "brushing" the side of the technics platter to slow down the pitch.

+1 People are just whinig for the sake of whining. Let 'em cry, Rane will still sell mixers.
Products like this take the Disc Jockey out of being a DJ. If you need to be 100% sample based, just use your name, not "DJ Whosiwhatsit". I've been working with Electronic Music and alternate controllers since the inception of MIDI, and the biggest thing that manufacturers always had to stress to the consumer (and still should) is things like "It doesn't play like a *insert instrument here*" BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT those instruments. Turntables spin records. CD Players spin CD's. Computers play digital audio. My point is, learn to spin vinyl before using the mixer's extra bells and whistles. Rane has made quality products since before 90% of the public even knew about what a DJ even used, and I just feel like their Legacy customers are sort of being left in the dust.

The 2011 World DMC Champion, DJ Vajra came to New Zealand at the end of last year to put the Rane Sixty-One through its paces.
Check out his killer routine, but BE WARNED - you may feel like you need to go back to the lab after you watch this:
